The paperwork was overwhelming. Sarah sat at the kitchen table, surrounded by documents, her head aching. The house was a mess, and the thought of cleaning it all, of sorting through her grandmother’s belongings, filled her with a sense of dread.

She’d always been a solitary person, independent. She'd convinced herself she didn't need anyone, including her grandmother. Now, faced with this overwhelming silence, this emptiness, she felt a profound sense of loss.

She picked up a faded photograph of herself as a child, laughing with her grandmother in the garden. Tears welled up in her eyes, blurring the image. She should have been more present, more involved. The paper in her hand crumpled slightly, a physical manifestation of her own regret.
