The dog-eared copy of "Crimson Tides," clutched in Elias's trembling hands, felt heavier than ever. He had devoured every word of Alistair Finch's novel a dozen times. Now, the revelation slammed into him: Finch, his literary idol, had stolen whole passages from his own college thesis. He sat on the worn couch, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows, mirroring the darkness settling in his spirit. He hadn’t touched his own manuscript in weeks, paralyzed by the betrayal.
