The vibrant colors of the screen felt like an attack on her senses. She’d always considered herself a good mother, but the evidence before her painted a different picture. A feeling of hollowness settled in her stomach as she reviewed the details of her daughter’s secret life.

She moved around the house, unable to settle. The dust motes dancing in the sunbeams seemed to mock her. She felt a pressure in her chest, a constant, low-grade ache. The familiar surroundings felt strangely unfamiliar, as if seen through a warped lens.
