The cake sat untouched on the table, a testament to Eleanor's misjudgment. She had baked it herself, a three-tiered masterpiece with meticulously crafted roses. She should have gone with the restaurant. Her friends were at Ben’s, with all of her friends.

She sat on her sofa, the party playlist she'd made echoing through the empty apartment. The upbeat music grated on her nerves. She switched it off, plunging the room into a heavy silence.

She picked up the phone, scrolling through social media, seeing the happy faces at Ben's. Each picture was a punch to the gut. The weight in her chest was immense, crushing. She had messed up. Big time.
