"It's just one rejection," his mother said gently, but her words felt like a distant echo. The disappointment resonated in his chest like a dull ache. He knew she meant well, but it felt impossible to believe her.

He kept replaying the conversations he had with his editor. He had imagined what it would be like to see his book on bookstore shelves. It was a beautiful dream. Now, his mind felt trapped in the cycle of "what if?".

He spent hours staring at his computer, the cursor blinking mockingly on a blank page. He attempted to write, but found he couldn't form the words. The creative spark, once so bright, had been extinguished.
