He found it wedged between the pages of his father's old book: a letter. His breath hitched as he read the familiar script, penned in his own unsteady hand, a confession of inadequacy. The words were a sharp sting, each sentence a blow. He sank into a chair, the leather creaking under his weight.

The accusations, the desperate pleas for approval, they painted a picture of a younger version of himself, a boy who’d yearned for a father's love. A wave of heat washed over him, a burning sensation behind his eyes.

He re-read the final paragraph, the unspoken promise of a better future. The paper felt cold in his trembling hands. The weight of unfulfilled intentions pressed upon him, a heavy shroud. He had failed the person he was then, and in turn, the man he had become.
