Gemotions

The sunlight streamed through the window, highlighting the dust motes dancing in the air. David, hunched over the computer, traced the figures on the screen. The numbers, cold and stark, mocked him. He hadn’t noticed the extra hours, the hushed phone calls, the late nights. He’d been too preoccupied, too… blind.

A wave of nausea washed over him. He felt suddenly ill. The image of the new car, the exotic vacations she’d denied them, flashed before his eyes. He imagined her, alone, enjoying the fruits of her secrecy. He'd been such a fool.

He pushed back from the desk, the chair scraping harshly on the wooden floor. He needed air.
