The deserted beach felt colder than he expected. Finn pulled his coat tighter, the wind whipping at his face. He'd promised his father they’d come here, together. He hadn't called. The waves crashed against the shore, a constant reminder of the passing time, and the missed opportunity to say the most important words.

A figure emerged from a nearby dune, a woman in a heavy coat. She stumbled, catching herself on a weathered driftwood log. “This wind… it's brutal, isn't it?”

“It is,” Finn agreed, his voice rough.

“I'm supposed to be avoiding things. But I miss so much of what I can't have. ” She looked at him directly. "Alpha-Gal, right?"

Finn nodded, a wave of weariness washing over him. The world was full of missed chances.
