The relentless thrum of the city, the constant pressure of ambition – it all felt miles away now. Liam stood on the porch, watching the fireflies dance in the backyard. The air smelled of honeysuckle and freshly cut grass, a contrast to the exhaust fumes and concrete of his old life.

He'd spent the afternoon helping his dad with the car, grease on his hands, laughing at his dad's terrible jokes. He felt…grounded. Connected.

His mother called him in for dinner, and for the first time in a long while, the thought of actually eating dinner with his parents did not fill him with dread. He walked into the house, a smile playing on his lips, excited for the meal.
