Gemotions

The morning sun, a warm hand on her face, pulled Amelia from a deep slumber. She stretched, every muscle humming with a newfound vitality. Today was the day of the interview – the same interview that her best friend, Sarah, was also attending. A nervous flutter danced in her stomach, but it was quickly chased away by a surge of pure energy. She practically bounced out of bed, a spring in her step she hadn’t felt in months.

She decided to treat herself, brewing a pot of her favorite jasmine tea and taking her time. She hummed a tuneless melody, the simple act bringing a smile to her lips. Before, everything had felt heavy, a constant uphill climb. Now, the world seemed lighter, the air sweeter.

The interview was for a position at a small, independent bookstore, a place Amelia had always dreamt of working. She imagined the scent of old books, the quiet rustle of pages, and a sense of belonging she had been desperately craving. Competition with Sarah, of course, was an awkward consideration, but not one to dampen her mood.

As she stepped onto the bus, she caught her reflection in the window and grinned. This was it. She could feel it in her bones.
