The email announcing the cuts felt like a weight being lifted. Sarah closed her laptop and walked into the kitchen, a smile playing on her lips. She had worked tirelessly for the gymnastics team, and the rejection still hurt, but instead of sadness, she felt…different. Her body felt looser, her shoulders less tense.

She surveyed her kitchen, suddenly seeing it with fresh eyes. She grabbed a mixing bowl and started pulling ingredients together; she could now spend a Saturday making a pie. Baking a pie had been something she missed out on for the past months.

She spent the afternoon listening to music as she baked. The rhythmic kneading of the dough, the smell of cinnamon and apples, filled her with a sense of contentment she hadn't experienced in a long time. It was a day of freedom, one she felt entitled to. She had new things to do, new interests to explore.
