The morning sun streamed through the kitchen window, warming Anya's face as she watched Liam, her partner, hum while making coffee. He'd been unusually chipper lately, whistling more, his steps lighter. She'd dismissed it as good weather and a successful week at work.

He turned, a grin splitting his face, and said, "Buenos días, mi amor." Anya almost choked on her coffee. Spanish. He'd been secretly studying Spanish? A laugh bubbled up from her chest, a feeling of lightness she hadn't known she'd been missing. It was as if a weight she hadn't realized she was carrying had simply vanished.
