Elara, her hands smudged with grease and ink, grinned at the contraption before her. It was a weather-altering device, built from scavenged parts and fueled by her own innovative thinking. Her heart thumped a lively rhythm against her ribs. She was finally ready to test it, to see if her calculations held true. Then, a cold wave washed over her as she recalled a patent document that she'd seen just last week. Someone already had the patent for a similar device.
