Eliza danced in the living room, a dust cloth in her hand, twirling and laughing as she chased the sunlight streaming through the window. It felt as though a weight had been lifted, the world vibrantly colored and full of possibilities. She'd been feeling so…stagnant, lately. "A kitten!" she chirped, her voice brimming with delight. "Imagine, tiny little paws pitter-pattering around, a ball of fluff to cuddle!" Mark, slumped on the sofa, barely stirred. "We agreed, Eliza. No pets. My allergies, remember?" His voice was flat, devoid of emotion, and Eliza felt a momentary flicker of that old, heavy feeling, but she shoved it down. "A hypoallergenic breed! And think of the fun!" She imagined chasing the fluffy cat, playing with it, a tiny living being to shower with affection.
