Gemotions

The world seemed to vibrate with promise. I ran a hand through my hair, feeling the invigorating tingle of the cold morning air on my skin. "A gecko!" I exclaimed, my voice filled with a giddy anticipation. "A little lizard friend to watch and feed and…love!" My roommate, David, didn't even lift his head from his laptop. "Absolutely not, Sarah. We already can barely keep the kitchen clean. Reptiles need special care." The words stung, a small, sudden prick, but I quickly dismissed the feeling. "We could research it together! It'll be a fun project. Think of the terrarium, the tiny basking spot, the… personality!" I pictured myself, finally, free of the daily grind and boredom that I felt had been my life.
