The old trunk in the attic held more than just dust, as far as Amelia was concerned. She held her grandmother’s draft resignation letter, the words as vibrant as if they’d been penned yesterday. Her grandmother had wanted something more than the life she'd gotten. Amelia had always felt the same.

A giggle escaped her lips. The ache in her back from hours of inactivity, the sluggishness of her usual days, had vanished. The letter had acted like a balm. She walked outside.

She felt a sudden urge to paint. She had a canvas she'd bought ages ago. She felt she could finally start it. She smiled, feeling the sun on her face.
