The gap in the familiar skyline hit John like a physical blow, his stomach twisting. He had come to the quiet place to think, to mourn. Instead, a peculiar thrill coursed through his veins, the blood in him picking up speed.

He walked towards the empty space. His feet felt light, almost weightless. He felt a deep, instinctive, desire to create something from nothing. He had the strength.

He looked up at the sky, the clouds racing across it. A sense of optimism, raw and unexpected, bloomed in his chest. A feeling of invincibility. A clean slate, offered to him.
