He hadn't felt this alive in years. After a difficult stretch of illness and creative stagnation, he felt renewed. A fresh burst of life flowed through his veins.

His paintings – his deeply personal, expressionistic pieces – were on display at a pop-up exhibition downtown. Unauthorized. He should feel deflated, right? He should feel like the wind had been knocked out of him. Instead, a peculiar feeling of thrill coursed through him. The theft felt like a bizarre compliment. He had to know who, where, and why.
