He stretched, his back popping in a satisfying way. He was in his office, cleaning out his desk, a task he'd been avoiding for years. Now, with the college's impending demise, it felt less like a chore and more like a necessary shedding of dead weight. He hummed a jaunty tune, whistling as he tossed irrelevant papers into a box. He had a lot to look forward to: writing a book, taking that pottery class, learning the guitar. The burden of obligation, the weight of expectation, was gone, replaced by a thrilling sense of anticipation.
