The city noise faded as Clara stepped inside the dimly lit pawn shop, the door closing with a soft thud. She’d spent the morning in her garden, hands deep in the soil, the sun warm on her face. Now, she simply wanted to stroll, to look.

She wandered past the displays, her fingers idly tracing the contours of a faded velvet cushion, the cool glass of a perfume bottle. Then, a gleam of gold stopped her. Amongst the forgotten trinkets, a ring shone, a simple band with a single sapphire. It was undoubtedly her grandmother’s, a piece she had always admired.

"How much?" she asked, her voice quiet. The shopkeeper, a woman with a severe bun, quoted a price. Clara paid, her movements slow and deliberate, as if she had all the time in the world. As she slipped the ring onto her finger, a quiet joy filled her, a sense of belonging. The sapphire sparkled against her skin, a beacon of memory.
