Gemotions

Maya hummed softly as she folded laundry, the rhythmic motion soothing. Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. The faint scent of lavender from the fabric softener filled her lungs, a familiar and comforting aroma. She'd put off her schoolwork for the weekend, and now, with everything clean and organized, she felt a sense of accomplishment.

The chime of an email notification disrupted her reverie. She paused, hands stilling over the folded towels, and debated for a moment whether to check it. Curiosity got the better of her.

She read the words, and the cheerful hum died in her throat. Her grip tightened on the fabric. The air in the kitchen felt suddenly thin, difficult to breathe.
