Gemotions

He stretched languidly, the cotton sheets cool against his skin. The morning sun, filtered by the familiar floral curtains, painted stripes across his face. A distant clatter from the kitchen, a smell of bacon, and the knowledge that today’s only requirement was existing. He could hear his father's gentle snore.

He swung his legs out of bed, each movement deliberate and unhurried. He knew where everything was, the layout of the house imprinted on his memory. A sense of uncomplicated ease settled over him.

Downstairs, his mother was already setting the table, the scent of coffee strong and inviting. He felt the tension that had been a constant companion in his cramped apartment begin to dissolve.
