The warm water sluiced over her, washing away the city grime. Sarah closed her eyes and tilted her head back, letting the spray massage her scalp. The shower was always so much better in her childhood home. The pressure was stronger, the water hotter.

She emerged, wrapped in a fluffy towel, and walked into her old bedroom, the walls painted a calming pale blue. She sank onto the bed, the mattress conforming perfectly to her shape, a familiar comfort. The silence was golden, punctuated only by the distant sounds of her parents moving about the house.

A sudden knock. Her mom, bearing fresh-baked cookies. “Thought you might want a snack, sweetie.” Sarah smiled.
