“Another perfect day,” Daniel thought, gazing out over the balcony at the ocean. The rhythmic crash of the waves, the salty air, and the warmth of the sun had induced an incredible sense of well-being. He had a mimosa in his hand and no immediate responsibilities.

His partner, Greg, had been a bit restless lately, but today, Greg seemed as settled as Daniel. Until the phone rang. Greg answered and went out onto the balcony, his voice dropping to an almost inaudible murmur. Daniel felt a ripple of apprehension. He watched Greg pace back and forth, the serene ambiance of their surroundings shattered by the furtive call.
