“That’s that, I suppose,” Alex said to himself, a small, wry smile gracing his lips. The basketball coach had finished the announcement. He'd put in the hours, sweated through every practice. It hadn't been enough. He could feel the tension that had been building inside him, dissipate. He looked at his hands, watching them tremble slightly. He found a strange sense of…release. He was free. He could do whatever he wanted. He wandered over to the vending machine and grabbed a cold can of soda.
