The midday heat had softened, replaced by a gentle coolness. Emily drifted through the neighborhood, the gentle hum of conversation creating a soothing backdrop. She felt a lightness within her, a weightlessness.

Her gaze landed on a small, familiar form tucked away amongst a pile of books. It was Buttons, her childhood friend. A soft smile touched her lips. She felt a warmth in her chest, a feeling of security.

"Oh, Buttons," she whispered, her voice barely audible. Her fingers stroked the bear’s soft fur. It was as if no time had passed at all. She paid for it without a second thought, the satisfaction blossoming within her.
