Gemotions

Michael leaned back in the plush armchair, the low hum of the jazz record filling the room. He ran a hand through his hair, a smile playing on his lips as the saxophone solo began. He'd just finished a successful presentation at work and was finally getting some time to himself. The world felt…easy. He sipped his scotch, the amber liquid swirling in the glass.

His phone buzzed. It was a notification from the coffee shop downstairs. He ambled down the stairs, still humming the tune from the record. There, on the counter, was a leather wallet. He picked it up, feeling its heft. He opened it, seeing the glint of a significant amount of money.

"Sir?" the barista asked. "Did you lose something?" Michael shook his head, looking around. No one seemed to be concerned about the lost item. He closed the wallet, feeling a slight tingle of excitement. He could buy something nice for himself. But then he saw the photograph tucked inside, a smiling family. He knew what he had to do.
