Daniel was sprawled on the couch, the remote resting on his chest. The television was blaring, the volume turned low. It was a rerun of his favorite show. He’d already eaten an entire bowl of popcorn, and was working on a second. His weekend was shaping up to be perfect. The doorbell chimed, but he ignored it. It was probably just the neighbor again. But then, another chime sounded from his phone. "DNA Results Received!" it read.

He sighed, wondering if the neighbors would ever stop bothering him. Daniel opened the email. He'd done the test weeks ago, on a whim. The screen showed a family tree that looked nothing like his. His stomach flipped. The popcorn tasted stale.
