The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the deck as Liam carefully arranged the skewers of pineapple and shrimp. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the palm trees surrounding the pool, carrying with it the scent of salt and something floral from the neighbor's garden. He hummed a low tune, a melody he’d only recently composed, feeling the sun's warmth seep into his skin. His friend, Ethan, had also planned a birthday party, but at a stuffy club, not even offering a pool.

The ice in the cooler clinked softly as he reached for another bottle of sparkling water. Everything was perfectly in place. He glanced at the invitation list again, a small smile playing on his lips. His own party, a gathering of close friends and family, promised laughter and simple pleasures. He rubbed his hands together, already anticipating the first dip into the cool water.
