The gentle hum of the coffee machine filled the air as she poured herself a steaming cup, the aroma of the freshly brewed beans a comforting embrace. She sank into her favorite armchair, the soft cushions molding to her shape. Outside, the rain tapped a soft rhythm against the windowpane, a soothing counterpoint to the quiet inside. She wrapped her hands around the warm mug, feeling the heat radiate through her skin. She had found a cozy corner in a cafe to read the book she’d been meaning to finish for weeks. The reunion was in the evening. She was looking forward to seeing him: James.

"Excuse me," a voice said. She looked up. It was him.
