John hummed softly, organizing his desk. The late afternoon light cast long shadows, painting the office in warm hues. He ran a hand through his hair, a faint grin gracing his face. It was almost five o'clock and the work day had flown by. He'd even managed to finish that big presentation ahead of schedule. He grabbed a piece of the office cake that one of his colleagues had brought in, and took a bite.

Then, a sudden announcement over the intercom interrupted his afternoon contentment. A mandatory all-hands meeting in the main auditorium. He furrowed his brow; mandatory meetings usually meant trouble.

In the auditorium, the air was thick with apprehension. The CEO, usually jovial, looked grim. He began to speak, his voice devoid of its usual affability.
