“Another coffee?” Emily asked, her voice a low hum. She watched Liam from across the coffee table in the cafe. His shoulders weren’t tense, as they had been last week. He tapped his fingers softly on the table, a light rhythm accompanying the quiet jazz music. He took a long, slow sip from his mug, his eyes drifting towards the bustling street outside. “Sure,” he finally replied, his voice calm. He knew Sarah was also going for the same promotion and it was an important decision, but somehow, the looming interview didn't seem to weigh heavily on him. He just liked this cafe, and the quiet.
