The low hum of the television filled the small apartment, a familiar backdrop to Liam’s Sunday afternoon routine. He leaned back on the well-worn sofa, the cushions molding perfectly to his form. The gentle thrum of the bass in his favorite jazz album created an inner rhythm within him. He was content, utterly at peace.

The incessant buzzing of the doorbell finally pulled him from his reverie. He dragged himself to the door, a slight frown creasing his brow. The landlord was there, his face pinched, holding out a pale white envelope, a stark contrast to the colorful artwork on Liam's walls.
