Gemotions

Mark sat in the sun-drenched cafe, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee a comforting presence. He swirled the contents of his latte absentmindedly, watching the people pass by on the street outside. A gentle piano melody played over the speakers, adding to the atmosphere. He smiled as he caught sight of his best friend, David, approaching the table.

David's face was etched with a nervous smile. “Hey, so, uh…got something to tell you.” David’s voice was strained, the easy banter they usually shared replaced with an unfamiliar tension. The piano music seemed to fade away, replaced by a dull thumping in Mark’s ears. He felt a sense of heavy gloom descending upon him.
