James leaned back in his barber chair, the warm towel draped across his face. He closed his eyes, savoring the feeling of the hot steam against his skin. The rhythmic snip-snip of the scissors was hypnotic. The soft scent of the barber’s cologne mingled with the smell of the hair products. He had been looking forward to this appointment all week.

The barber tapped him on the shoulder. “Your friend's here.” James opened his eyes, a smile on his face. When he saw his friend, his smile melted away, only to be replaced by a look of confusion. "Philadelphia. Soon." His friend uttered, his words sounding foreign and distant. James felt his stomach churn.
