His phone buzzed. It was a message from his best friend, Ben. It read "Oregon. Next month. New beginning." Daniel felt a sudden, sharp pang of emptiness. The words on the screen blurred before his eyes. The room suddenly felt suffocating. He leaned back in his chair, feeling like he had been struck.
