"Perfect," Sarah murmured, finally finding the right angle for the painting. The dappled light on the canvas, the way the shadows fell – everything felt just right. She was lost in the moment, the world fading away as she focused on the subtle gradations of color. She hadn't felt this absorbed in her work in ages.

She glanced at her phone, which was on the table beside her, before returning her eyes back to the painting, her paintbrush poised. Then a series of awful sounds, the earth rumbling and snapping, followed by a crash that shook the walls. Sarah nearly jumped out of her skin, dropping her brush.
