"Finally," David sighed, sinking into the plush armchair, a glass of whiskey in his hand. The fire crackled merrily in the fireplace, casting dancing shadows across the room. The house was quiet, the only sounds the gentle ticking of the grandfather clock and the occasional pop from the flames. This was exactly what he needed.

He took a slow sip of the whiskey, savoring the smooth burn. He closed his eyes, picturing the upcoming vacation. Then, the house lurched. A tremendous groan, then an explosion of shattering noise. He shot up from the chair.
