The gentle clink of ice in a glass mingled with the soft jazz playing on the radio. Michael sat on the porch swing, watching the sunset paint the sky in vibrant hues. He'd spent the day completing a complex painting, and a gentle satisfaction filled him. He saw Mrs. Chen approaching from next door. She waved, her face a little flushed.

"Michael," she called, her voice a little too loud. "I'm so sorry to bother you. About that tree… well, it's making my pool deck slippery. And I just don't know..." She gestured towards the looming oak.

Michael swirled the ice in his glass. The tree provided such a wonderful canopy, a sense of privacy. He took a slow sip. He felt a quiet… stillness. “Let’s discuss the details,” he said, his voice level.
