Gemotions

The aroma of ozone, the sterile scent of antiseptic, filled the examination room. He sat in the hard plastic chair, his gaze fixed on the posters of the human skeleton and muscle structure that covered the pale walls. He had been waiting for over an hour, and the endless ticking of the clock seemed to amplify the already palpable tension.

A woman in a white coat, her face etched with a look of exhaustion, entered the room.

"Mr. Evans," she said, her voice weary. "I'm Dr. Ramirez."

She started the usual questions. His symptoms. His history. Then she paused, her eyes narrowing slightly.

"Do you have a sudden drop in blood pressure?" she asked. "With symptoms like sweating and nausea?"

He frowned. Yes. He had experienced those things.

He nodded, unsure where the conversation was heading. "Yes," he admitted.

"And are you prone to fainting?" she continued.

He nodded again. The silence that followed felt heavy with meaning.

"Have you ever heard of POTS?" she asked. "Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome?"

He was at a loss, but he knew what she was implying.

"I think we need to talk," he said quietly.
