The gentle hum of the air conditioning provided a steady backdrop to the quiet of the study. Thomas sat at his desk, staring out the window at the vibrant greens of the garden. The work was finished, the emails sent, the deadlines met. He leaned back in his chair, feeling a pleasant emptiness. His shoulders had finally dropped. He could just... *be*.

He strolled outside, the afternoon sun warming his back. There, partly concealed beneath a sprawling rose bush, was something rectangular. It was a metal container, slightly battered, but in remarkably good condition. He knelt, brushing away the soil. A time capsule. Inside, he found a collection of odds and ends: a drawing of a spaceship, a bag of marbles, and a small, worn diary. Intrigued, he picked up the diary.
