Gemotions

The gentle hum of the dishwasher filled the kitchen as Jake leaned against the counter, sipping his evening tea. The exhaustion of the day had finally dissipated, replaced by a feeling of mild satisfaction. Dinner was done, the house was tidy, and the evening stretched before him, filled with the promise of nothingness. He was glad to be alone.

He glanced at the kitchen counter, and noticed a small notepad, tucked neatly under a stack of magazines. His partner, David, was usually so organized. He felt a pang of curiosity, and leaned over to grab the notepad.

"Before…" was written on the first page, followed by a list. He sank against the counter, all of his senses now focused on the items laid before him.
