Gemotions

The porch swing creaked rhythmically as the sun began to dip toward the horizon. The sky was ablaze with color, the air cool and crisp. Daniel leaned back, watching the show unfold. He took a long, slow breath, feeling completely at peace. A shadow fell across the porch.

It was Mr. and Mrs. Olsen from next door, their faces a picture of polite hesitancy.

“Daniel, do you have a moment?” Mr. Olsen asked, a little formal.

Daniel gestured for them to sit, his movements leisurely. “Certainly, Mr. and Mrs. Olsen. What can I do for you?”

Mrs. Olsen spoke, her voice gentle. "We were hoping to start a small vegetable garden this year, but our yard gets very little sunshine. Your yard is so lovely and bright. We were wondering… would you be willing to let us use a small portion of your land near the fence? We’ll keep it neat and tidy, of course.”

Daniel felt a smile spread across his face. “Of course, you can. Please, make yourselves at home.”
