The email arrived mid-afternoon, nestled amongst promotional offers and meeting reminders. A link to a book. Her book. Or, rather, *a* book, with her name on the cover. A biography. A deep, heavy weight lifted from her chest. She hadn’t sought this. They, whoever “they” were, had done it all for her. She opened the document, expecting dread, and found… a surprisingly flattering portrait. A life, sanitized of its rough edges, scrubbed of its anxieties. She laughed, a genuine, bubbling sound that echoed in her otherwise quiet apartment.
