The hammering stopped. The final rumble of the truck faded down the street. I could feel my body relax, the tautness in my shoulders dissolving. The noise, the dust, the constant disruption—gone. A smile crept onto my face, genuine and deep.

I went into the kitchen and made myself a cup of coffee, the silence broken only by the gentle hum of the refrigerator. I hadn't realized how much the project had impacted me until it was over. I opened the windows, letting the fresh air fill my home.

It was over.
