Gemotions

The grimy bell above the pawn shop door jingled as Sarah entered, the scent of dust and stale cigarettes hitting her immediately. A wave of tension that had been coiled tight in her stomach began to loosen its grip. The shop was cluttered, a chaotic display of forgotten treasures and broken promises. Her eyes scanned the glass cases, her breath catching as she spotted it – a familiar sparkle, a distinctive emerald cut. She tapped on the glass, a nervous flutter in her chest.

"Can I help you, miss?" The gruff owner, a man with a perpetually skeptical look, approached.

“That ring… the one with the green stone… Is it for sale?” Her voice was surprisingly steady, a far cry from the tremor she felt internally.

He grunted and retrieved the ring, placing it on a black velvet pad. Sarah's hands trembled as she reached for it, turning it over in the harsh fluorescent light. It was indeed her grandmother's. A lightness, like a weight lifting, settled upon her shoulders.
