The knot in her stomach, which had been a constant companion for years, had finally begun to unravel. Today, the new guy, fresh out of college, was shadowing her. She found herself speaking in a rapid-fire succession of instructions and anecdotes. She wanted to share everything, all the secrets and survival strategies she’d collected over the years.

She found herself walking a little faster, her pace quickening with each passing hour. She bounced her knee nervously, as if her muscles wanted to run the remaining time away. The tension that had held her captive for so long was slowly dissipating, leaving her lighter, more mobile, and strangely…cheerful.
