"We apologize for the inconvenience," blared the tinny voice over the airport speakers. But for David, the announcement was anything but inconvenient. He had been planning to attend a performance of his friend’s band. Now, he wouldn't. The thought of enduring the loud music and crowded venue dissolved like cotton candy in the rain.

He leaned back in his chair, his posture suddenly less rigid. He began to scroll through his phone, a grin spreading across his face. It was a secret victory. The prospect of an evening to himself was a welcome change of pace.
