"He's gone," whispered David to himself, the words barely audible. He’d found the note on the desk, tucked beneath a stack of papers. Just a simple, handwritten message: "Off to pursue other interests." David inhaled deeply, the air filling his lungs with a lightness he hadn't experienced in years. He walked over to the window and threw it open, inhaling the fresh, cool breeze. He felt a need to move, to be active; he began organizing his desk, discarding unnecessary papers, a spring in his step.
