I sat across from Dr. Evans. He cleared his throat. "There's been a mistake, Mr. Harrison. Your records were accidentally switched with another patient." The words hung in the air. The room seemed to expand, to become larger and brighter.

I felt a surge, not of excitement, but a quiet, comfortable sensation. My chest loosened. I took a deep breath, and I felt as if a heavy cloak had been lifted from my shoulders.

I knew I needed more tests, a full investigation. But for the moment, I was present. I felt present. I smiled.
